Experiential learning to prepare for real-world careers

Public health majors at LSUS are required to complete a practicum through which you’ll gain experience observing industry practices, assisting a supervisor and assessing procedures and clients. This opportunity will provide you with unparalleled experience entering a full-time position or graduate studies. Public health students have held practicing assignments with chiropractic offices, head and spinal injury prevention centers, Division I athletic programs, and many health-related non-profit organizations.

The public health program at LSUS will provide you with basic knowledge of health advocacy, program planning, health literacy, epidemiology, exercise science, environmental influences on health, and the aspects of aging. Health Behavior

Public Health Concentration

As a public health major with a concentration in health behavior, your experiences and courses will focus on the results of decision making and practices based on natural human behavior. In this community health concentration, you’ll take courses on environmental health problem prevention, epidemic diseases, media literacy and consumer protection.

Pre-Occupational Therapy

The Pre-OT concentration of the public health major fulfills the prerequisite for the LSU Health Sciences Center admission to Occupational Therapy program.

Pre-Physical Therapy

Public Health Concentration

A majority of the public health majors at LSUS are pursuing concentrations in Pre-Physical Therapy and Pre-Occupational Therapy. You’ll have the opportunity to work with professionals from diverse health care facilities in Shreveport on a regular basis.
