SLU-Madrid's business programs offer a comprehensive foundation in business fundamentals and liberal arts in a global environment that promotes cultural understanding and broadens our students' perspectives.

At SLU-Madrid, you'll study in the center of the Spanish-speaking economic world, in one of Europe's leading financial capitals. Our programs allow undergraduates to complete their degree in Madrid if they concentrate in international business, marketing or economics. Other business areas of concentration can be completed at the St. Louis campus.

Our undergraduate and graduate programs are accredited by AACSB International — the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business — the premier accrediting agency for degree programs in business.

Our students hail from around the world, including North America, South America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

All students are encouraged to study a semester or year abroad. Popular study abroad destinations include Japan, South Korea and Brazil.

Graduates find career opportunities with international banks, multinational corporations or with other global organizations. Many go on to work in financial centers around the world, including New York, Madrid, London and Dubai.

Curriculum

Our undergraduate business curriculum combines a strong arts and sciences component with the business Common Body of Knowledge. Advanced courses in the major of your choice enhance the curriculum.

Arts and Sciences Core Business Requirements

SLU ensures business students have a well-rounded liberal arts foundation that ensures they realize their full potential and achieve their goals. All business students are required to complete 48 credit hours of coursework through the College of Arts and Sciences.

Course Requirements

English

Nine credit hours as follows:

  • ENGL 1900 Strategies of Rhetoric and Research
  • ENGL 2020, 2200, 2300, 2400, 2600 or a foreign language literature course
  • ENGL 4005 Business and Professional Writing (highly recommended), English literature or fine and performing arts course

The fine and performing arts course may be substituted with an upper-division foreign language course; however, students for whom English is a second language may not complete requirements in their native language.

Communication

Three credit hours as follows:

  • CMM 1200 Introduction to Public Speaking

Social Sciences

Twelve hours as follows:

  • HIST 1110 or HIST 1120 Origins of the Modern World
  • PSY 1010 General Psychology
  • Two additional courses selected from African-American studies, American studies, history, political science, psychology, sociology or women's studies

Mathematics and Natural Sciences

Twelve hours as follows:

  • MATH 1200 College Algebra
  • MATH 1320 Survey of Calculus
  • One natural science course
  • One additional approved math or natural science course

Students exempt from MATH 1200 must replace the course with another approved math course. The MATH 1320 course requirement must be met by the end of sophomore year or students will not be allowed to register for any business classes; MATH 1510 Calculus I or higher level calculus course may be substituted.

Twelve hours as follows:

  • PHIL 1050 Introduction to Philosophy
  • PHIL 2050 Ethics
  • THEO 1000 Theological Foundations
  • An additional 2000-level theology course

Business Common Body of Knowledge

The Common Body of Knowledge required by ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ÖÆƬ³§ reveals how the distinct business disciplines interact successfully. All undergraduate business majors must complete 45 hours in business regardless of their chosen concentration.
