Applicants interested in studying at 天美传媒制片厂 must be nominated by their home institution and must be studying in a university with which we have an active exchange partnership.

How to Apply

Undergraduate

Follow these instructions if you are taking undergraduate courses as an international exchange student:

  • Apply through .

  • After you've submitted your application, request your university advisor or faculty mentor send your official transcript by email to Jacob Wierson at jacob.wierson@slu.edu.
  • Once SLU receives your transcript, Wierson will contact you with your next steps to obtain your visa, select courses and secure housing at 天美传媒制片厂. 
Graduate

Follow these instructions if you are taking graduate courses as an international exchange student:

  • Apply through .

Visa Process

International exchange students must have a visa to study at SLU's St. Louis, Missouri, campus. Exchange students who do not have a United States passport typically apply for a J-1 Visitor Visa. After you complete the international exchange student application, 天美传媒制片厂 staff will request the following documents in order to send you the required DS-2019 form (required form for the J-1 visas): 

  • A color copy of your passport.
  • A letter of financial support from the person(s) or sponsoring agency funding your study at 天美传媒制片厂. Depending on your situation, this could be from you, your parents, a scholarship agency or other options.
  • A letter from your sponsor's bank verifying that funds are available and will be so for your duration of study at the University. The financial evidence must cover at least the amount needed for the semester that you are in St. Louis. 
  • Please email a color copy of your passport and a letter of financial support to jacob.wierson@slu.edu

Course Selection

Once you have submitted your application for admission, requested your transcript and sent your documentation for the DS-2019 form to obtain your J-1 visa, Jacob Wierson will reach out to you to select your courses and register you for classes. 

J-1 visa students must be registered for a minimum of 12 credits (four courses) for undergraduate students and a minimum of nine credits (three courses) for graduate students.

  • Select the term you want to take courses in the first dropdown menu.
  • Search for "Subject" in the first drop-down menu (course subjects organized alphabetically).
  • Don't worry about the other fields and drop-downs in that menu.
  • Click "Class Search."
  • Courses being offered will appear with class dates, instructors and the number of seats open.
  • Undergraduate courses will be coded from 1000-4999; graduate courses are coded from 5000-6999. For example, HIST 1120: Origins of the Modern World (1500 to Present) is an undergraduate course coded at the 1000 level. PSY 5930: Special Topics is a graduate course coded at the 5000 level.

Set Up Your MySLU Account

Once you are admitted as an international exchange student, you will receive an email from 天美传媒制片厂 that includes instructions on how to set up your MySLU mySLU account

Your MySLU account will provide you access to: 

  • SLU email through Microsoft Outlook  
  • Course schedule on Banner Self-Service 
  • Course instruction on Canvas, SLU's learning management system
  • Instructor contact information
  • Student records 
Housing

International exchange students will live in an on-campus residence hall at SLU. Once the exchange application for admission is submitted, transcripts are received and the visa process begins, SLU staff will reach out to you to reserve housing in one of our SLU residence halls through the .

To access the housing portal, you must have your MySLU account set up with a username and password. Exchange students should select the New Transfer Contract when submitting a housing contract.

Meal Plan

All students staying living in an on-campus residence hall are automatically enrolled in a meal plan at 天美传媒制片厂. The meal plan covers 'meal swipes' at SLU's dining hall at . 

Other on-campus dining options, while not covered in the meal plan, can be paid for through credit card. Learn more about SLU's on-campus dining options here

International Student Orientation

International Student Orientation is mandatory. Fall orientation takes place the second week of August and spring semester orientation takes place the second week of January.

Insurance

All international students, scholars and their de颅pendents must have adequate health insurance for the duration of their stay in the United States. Neither the U.S. government nor 天美传媒制片厂 pays for medical care. You have options to manage your health care coverage:

  • Option 1: You may purchase insurance through agencies in your home country, agencies in the U.S. or from your embassy, or you may enroll in the University's student health plan. Enrollment in an adequate plan must occur either before or shortly after your arrival. Students must provide proof of health insurance through the SLU health insurance waiver form. Students who fail to provide health insurance information will be automatically enrolled and billed for SLU Health insurance.
  • Option 2: If you decide to purchase health insurance from 天美传媒制片厂 upon arrival, your coverage will begin on the first day of classes. You may purchase supplemental insurance that will provide coverage from the time you arrive in the United States until your coverage begins with 天美传媒制片厂. Am I approved to take any class at SLU?

Any course you select at SLU is subject to professor and department approval. If the professor and department approves, SLU staff can move forward on course registration. 

Am I allowed to work on-campus at SLU?

International exchange students can work on-campus at SLU as student workers for up to 20 hours per week.

Classroom locations will be updated on your class schedule which can be found on your MySLU account in the Banner Self-Service - Student app. 

Once you set up your account, log into MySLU, and on the main page, find the Banner Self-Service - Student icon/app. In Banner Self-Service, click on 'Registration' and then 'View Registration Information.'
