Paul Jelliss, Ph.D.

Associate Professor; Integrated and Applied Sciences Program Director
Department of Chemistry

Courses Taught

General Chemistry I and II, Inorganic Chemistry, Organometallic Chemistry, Solid State Chemistry

Education

BSc(hons) in Chemistry, University of Bristol, 1990
Ph.D. in Chemistry, University of Bristol, 1993

Research Interests

  • Reactive metal nanocomposite materials
  • Aluminum and boron hydride storage materials
  • Metallacarborane chemistry (complexes with boron cage ligands)

Objectives: Synthesize new materials and complexes and characterize them using analytical techniques such as FTIR, Raman, NMR, UV-vis spectroscopy, PXRD, DSC-TGA, and SEM/TEM. Reactive metal nanomaterials have applications in energetics (fuels, propellants etc), while metallacarboranes have potential electrochemical and pharmacological uses.
