The Center for Health Law Studies has been listed as a top program since the rankings were first published.

鈥淲e are once again honored to receive this top recognition by our peers,鈥 said Sidney D. Watson, director of the Center for Health Law Studies. 鈥淥ur multi-disciplinary faculty in law, medicine, bioethics, sociology and economics is focused on improving public health and health care. Our growing field is crucial now more than ever and our faculty are working to craft the public health law response to COVID-19."

Professor Sidney Watson

鈥淚 have always been so impressed by my colleagues in the Center for Health Law Studies,鈥 said William P. Johnson, dean of SLU LAW. 鈥淭hey are terrific scholars, which deserves recognition. But their mission-driven and service-oriented approach to their work truly distinguishes the program and is so valuable at a time like this. I am very proud of the work they do for the benefit of the entire community.鈥

Established in 1982, the Center for Health Law Studies was one of the first law school programs to focus on the intersection of the health care system and the legal system. The Center provides three health related dual-degree programs, including the J.D./MHA, which has been available to students for more than 30 years.

Health law opportunities for students include the chance to clerk in a federal agency through the Health Law Semester in D.C. program and the chance to work on the staff for the Journal of Health Law and Policy. The Center also hosts an annual Health Law Symposium bringing together experts from across the country as well as an annual Health Law Scholars Workshop in conjunction with the American Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics.
